Coming in July...

I'm very excited to announce that my newest romantic mystery, Slashing Mona Lisa, will be published on July 16th, 2018.  Beachwalk Press will be publishing the digital version and Punctuated Publishing will be publishing the print and audio book versions.

Slashing Mona Lisa is a mystery where Camarin Torres, a rookie journalist of Chamorro descent (her family hails from Guam) gets caught in the cross hairs of a plot by a vigilante group against the $60 billion diet industry.  Camarin has her own body acceptance issues which play into the story. She also gets involved with her dashing, older publisher, Lyle Fletcher, who may or may not be the mastermind of the group she is investigating. 

What inspired the story: Aside from being a yo yo dieter myself, which has filled me with self-recrimination for the last (I'm not filling in a number) years, I've noticed a trend where the diet industry constantly has its hands in the pocketbooks and wallets of vulnerable consumers, like those meant to feel that they are "less" because they weigh "more." It's not just the diet clinics of the world that prey upon the overweight, but also the "kinder" and "gentler" marketers, who say it's okay to feel good about yourself, as long as you buy their books and attend their retreats, which teach you how to do so. Another thought behind the novel is a reality I've seen in my own life: some people are really one person when they are heavy and a completely different person when they are thin.
